Tehri Garhwal is one of the largest districts of
state uttarakhand and which lies from the snow covering Himalayan peaks
of Thalaiya Sagar, Jonli and the Gangotri group all the way to the
foothills near Rishikesh.
New Tehri is newly established township, it is situated at 1550 m above the sea level. Old Tehri is converted into a Lake.
It is around 350 km away from Gurgaon and takes about 10 hr. to reach New Tehri
Suggested route from Gurgaon to New tehri is as follows , one can take either of the route to visit many places in a short span of time:-

Tehri dam , harnessing the waters of two important Himalayan rivers – Bhagirathi and Bhilangana. It has a height of 855 feet, making it the 5th tallest dam in the world. The Tehri dam has witnessed continuous questioning and protest by various people, including the noted environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna. The relocation of more than 100,000 people from the area has led to protracted legal battles over resettlement rights, and ultimately resulted in the project’s delayed completion. In the below photograhs we can see the damaged houses.

I still Remember i used to visit my uncle's place in OLD Tehri, (Drowned under Tehri DAM lake), 24/7 and 365 continuous work. And i used to blush after looking at the twinkling mountain every night.

DeleteAha, glad to see these pics again. I did my internship here, stayed here for 2 months and had excess to such vaults and offices underwater. Mind blowing experience that was. Thanks for sharing and making me go back in time.... :)
