Jim corbett - Day-2

 Jim Corbett

                     * Jim Corbett - Day 1
                     * Jim Corbett - Day 2
We got up at 5.00 AM and got ready for our safari ,two jeep reached before 6.00 AM. By the time we  all came down ,clicked some pics before leaving for Safari. Around 6.15 AM we left our hotel for Safari.

There were  05 Zones in Jim Corbett :-
1.       Dhikala – Open on Nov. 15th
2.       Bijrani – Open on Oct 15h
3.       Durga Devi - Open on Oct 15h
4.       Jhirna – Throughout the year depending on the weather condition
5.       Dhela (newly stated in Dec. 2014) - Throughout the year depending on the weather condition.

I had already done safari before in all the zones except Dhikala & newly opened zone Dhela. This time with the family went for safari in Dhela zone which is newly started.

Jim Corbett established in 1936 as hailey National park. In 1957 it was renamed as Corbett national park in the memory of late jim Corbett.  It was honoured as the place where project tiger was launched in 1973.

The total area of Tiger Reserve extends 1288.31 sq. kms spreading over three districts of Uttarakhand viz., Pauri, Nainital and Almora. Corbett National Park covers an area of 521 sq. km.

Permit is mandatory to visit the Corbett national park which is also available online. Limited numbers of vehicles are permitted during day and evening safari.  Private vehicles are not allowed inside the park. No one is allowed inside the park without a guide which can be arranged by any jeep driver.

We reached  Dhela Gate around 7.00am where security people checked our permit, after necessary formalities we started our safari. This zone is equally rich in flora and fauna. As compare to other zone Dhela is small in size and less dense. We took around one and half hours to cover it.
In jungle we saw deer, sambar , wild elephant, peacock , weaver’s nest and some birds.Again it was my hard luck as we were not able to spot a tiger but kids enjoyed safari.

Wild Elephant

We came back to hotel, had our tea and breakfast and left for Kaladungi to visit Jim Corbett museum and Corbett fall.

On the way to hotel

Jim Corbett Museum – kaladungi
It is situated at 30 kms from Ramnagar. The Bunglow which is converted into museum was built in 1922 and winter home for Jim Corbett.

Jim Corbett  born in July 25th, 1875 in Nanital where his father was posted as Post master. His father died when he was 04 years old and born& brought by his mother. His elder brother taught him shooting and the first animal he killed was leopard at the age of 10. After completing his education he served in railway and then in Army. After Independence he decided to migrate to Kenya in 1947.
Jim Corbett museum spread over 22 bighas. When Jim Corbett left for Kenya he sold this Bunglow to Chiranjee Lal , later on the request of forest minister Charan singh he sold this to Forest department to make it a Museum .

He died on April 19th , 1955 in Kenya. He was a renowned writer . Some of the famous books written by him are Man eaters of Kumaoun , My India, Jungle lore, Temple tiger , The man eating leopard of Rudarpryag  and his last book was Tree tops.

After visiting museum, on the way back visited Corbett fall. Which is 26 kms from Ramnagar and around 5 kms fron Jim Corbett museum.

One has to buy ticket to visit the Corbett fall. The charges are Rs. 50/- for adult and Rs. 25 for kids. For light vehicle the charges are Rs. 100/-. After getting our ticket we were on the way to fall which is around 1.7 kms from the entrance gate. We passed through narrow , untar road covered with thick teak trees.We enjoyed walking in the lap of nature away from our polluted city.

After parking our car we walked 250-300 meters along a well laid path towards fall.

The fall is small with the height of 20 meters covered with green forest. We clicked some family pictures and continued our journey towards our hotel.

Family Pic

Today was wife’s birthday and cake / music was arranged by hotel . After cake cutting celebration we had our dinner and went to bed. Next day we settled our account and left for home. On the way we had our breakfast at tadka- Gajrula again and reached home by 3.00 PM.

Soon will take you to some other destination................................
