Deoria Tal

Contants - Deoria Tal / Tungnath

On the way to Deoria tal
                         Deoria  Tal
                         Tungnath

We started our trekking from Village Sari around 3.30 PM .Deoria Tal is at an altitude of 2,438 Mtrs and famous for its mesmerizing reflections of Chaukhamba Range in the crystal clear water of Tal.

The distance between Village Sari and Deoria Tal is around 2.30 Kms but the entire trek is steep and trekking  would be actually too tough for the non-regular trekker.

We were moving slowly and enjoying scenic beauty around us.

On the way we passed through Nagraj Temple.

Finally we reached at entry point of Deoria Tal at 5.30 PM where we came across a couple of small restaurants / Dhabas. The lake was still little  far away.

All the visitors are supposed to pay Rs. 150/- per person to visit Deoria Tal as maintenance fee.

As soon as we reached close to Deoria Tal we were stunned by the mesmerising beauty around.

We took a round of lake and reached at watch tower from where Chaukhamba Range can be seen clearly. But it was our hard luck that due to the cloudy weather we could not be see any of the peaks.

During the time of 12 years of exile, one day Pandava  were all tired and exhausted and extremely thirsty.
Yudhishtira asked Nakula to climb up a tree to locate any source of water. Nakula did accordingly and located the evidence for some water source. Yudhistira asked Nakula to go to the source and get immediately some water. He went there and saw a lake with crystal clear water and was about to drink it when he heard a voice: 'Don't venture to drink the water before answering my questions. Otherwise you will come to die. Nakula did not heed his words and tried to drink the water. Immediately he fell down dead. One by one all the brother died. Finally Yudhishtira went and answered all the 18 question asked by Yaksha. Finally one by one Yudhishtira got all his brothers back.

We stayed  overnight at Deoria tal in tents which we got them booked in advance through a local tourist guide Hira Singh Negi. There is a facility of  forest guest house too but people prefer to stay in tents. There is no electricity in Deoria Tal , tent guys will provide you with  solar lanterns and it is advisable not  to roam around in night because of the fear of wild animals.

We had our dinner at a dhaba which is run by same guy who arranged tents  for us. We relished the tasty Food and  chappati cooked in chullahas which we can find in such remote places only.

Next morning we got up at 5.30 AM but it was again cloudy. We could manage to see only  orange  tip of the peaks of Chaukhamba Range. We waited there till 7.00 AM in this hope that weather would be clearer and atleast we will be able to watch the reflection of the range but I think we were not destined to see it this time.

  4. Again a beautiful and informative post! And I am proud being one of the co trekker of you from another team! But I really didn't know the story about the lake! And also I was completely unaware about the Chaukhamba Peaks! Reading your posts I am realising that before visiting any place I should do a lil research about it!
Seeing ur camp pictures I am realising we should have also stayed there only in camps, instead of hotel.
But really Deoriatal was really a beautiful place and my first proper trekking experience!

    1. Thanks for going through the post and liking it. It is always better to gather some info regarding the place you would like to visit. Staying in camp was wonderful experience but the purpose of staying over there was not fulfilled as we were not able to see the reflection of chukhamba range in lake due to cloudy climate.
